Splashion: Fashions That Make A Splash

Everything I ever wanted to be would have been a whole lot easier if I had been built like a model or a dancer. Now I'm 53 and I am forced at last to accept myself the way I am. I'm working on my own wardrobe. This is my Tumblr for loving yourself the way you are and making clothes and accessories that bring out your sparkling personality.

I’m so glad I learned how to sew in my youth. It really spoils you for ‘off the rack’ shopping though. Even if something in a store inspires me, by being able to sew I can make it in the fabric and color I love and not just settle for the limited selection in the store. How many times have you seen something you love but it was in the wrong color, fabric, or size for you.  So you went home empty handed. If you love fashion, learn to sew.  At least study the terminology so you know the difference between rouching and ruffles or linen and lawn. That way you can be a more educated consumer when you do have to buy ‘off the rack’.

Color chips from the paint store can also be used to help you design your wardrobe. Some of the color chip cards also have a photo on the back of other colors they suggest to go with the main color. Put the samples in a zip bag and tuck them in your purse so you have them at the clothing or fabric store. Don’t get too hung up on matching it perfectly; you just want to be in the same ballpark.

On the Nate Berkus show he featured a choir building he decorated in black, yellow and white.  It’s not a color scheme I ever would have chosen. It’s a bit too ‘bumblebee’ for me. But it came out really nice.  The next day I saw two teenage girls wearing outfits in yellow, black and white. It looked nice, and I’m keeping an open mind.  As you can see in the photo in the next post, I picked up color cards in yellow, black and white.

The purples are a color I’d love to wear or do an office in.  A massage therapist with the office next to me once had the purple color scheme. It was very relaxing and calming, which is what you want in a healing environment.

Wish it were me.
